After his side got off to a more or less perfect start to their Europa League campaign, with a 3-1 first leg victory away at Zurich, Carlo Ancelotti praised the players’ character in the post-matc press conference.
"We were lucky to break the deadlock early on. That was the difference compared to some of our previous games. Our finishing was clearly better – we need to keep going like that and improve even more."
About his debut in the Europa League the Azzurri's coach said: "This was my first-ever match in the Europa League and it’s been a nice feeling. I’m glad with the players’ approach and desire to take control straight away. We wanted to put ourselves in a good position to advance in this away leg."
Meanwhile on goal-scorer Lorenzo Insigne, the boss added: "He’s improving and finding that consistency he had in the first part of the season. I think all the players were more decisive and determined in the attacking third, which is what we lacked a bit in Florence. "Both Insigne and Zielinski are key to us playing on the front foot. I need them both to work between the lines and they did very well tonight."
Finally, when asked whether Fabian Ruiz can take over from the departing Marek Hamsik in midfield, Ancelotti commented: "Fabian can play in various roles and certainly needs to improve in some areas. "He’s young and has got great talent but needs to be introduced gradually into the side. He’s got a different vision to Marek but is more penetrative."
