Inter suffered a bitter defeat on matchday 30 in Serie A TIM. After Lukaku’s opener and Lautaro’s penalty miss, the Nerazzurri were pegged back by Bologna, who secured the three points thanks to goals from Juwara and Barrow.
“There’s not a lot to say because what happened is quite clear, and all of us need to take responsibility. I’m primarily responsible, then it’s the players. We gifted them the match, and this is happening too often,” said Antonio Conte to Dazn after the game.
“I’m hugely disappointed, and I hope the lads are too. We need to assess things because the game was practically won, we should have seen it out. I’m finding it difficult to explain what happened: we had eleven players on the pitch compared to their ten, were in the lead and had the opportunity to score a second from the penalty spot. While the penalty was missed, we were still in the lead with a man advantage and had control of the game. It’s not the first time that something like this has happened. I’m asking myself questions and the players need to do so too.
“Given that I’m the Coach, I’m the one who is primarily responsible and will try to get answers through my work. From now until the end of the season, everyone will have to prove that they deserve to be at Inter. This applies to the Coach and all the players. If this is to be a winning project and there is a desire to be successful again, we need to give everything we have to show that we’re worthy of Inter. We’ve clearly got some steps to take to become a great team.
“That being said, we’ll lick our wounds. I hope that a bit of fire is running through the players’ veins, even just one per cent of the amount that flows through mine would be a good starting point. We now need to ensure that we seal our place in next season’s Champions League and make as few mistakes as possible. We’re all being scrutinised and need to show that we’re capable of being part of a winning project.”
