Parma's coach Roberto D’Aversa met with the media in the Press Room at the Tardini after his side’s 5-1 win over Genoa.
“It’s always tough to take, we lost Bruno Alves yesterday and Roberto Inglese today; but there are positives in the performances of Cornelius and Dermaku. Both of them proved themselves as part of the group and they helped earned our success tonight, but that has been coming in all of their hard work in the past too. You know me by now, that I try and work during the week in order to make sure we bring home the points, and I have to say that tonight the boys showed their desire to win at all costs from the very first minute, despite the injuries we’ve been troubled with. Next we just need to learn to keep our heads both when we’re winning and when we’re not.”
“Scozzarella knows me, he knows what I want and he’s an important player in his role, both in our build-up play and from set-pieces. In the past he’s had problems getting through the full 90 minutes but we’re working on it and tonight he only came off because he was on a booking, nothing to do with how he was playing.”
“I can’t fault my players at all for their performances at home, they always play well despite the losses against Juventus and Cagliari. The result against Cagliari might have been different if we’d have made the most of our chances, but we made mistakes and sometimes defeats help you to work harder and better understand where you need to improve. I’m very demanding with both myself and with them; at times when we lose it’s not a question of commitment, sometimes games like that just happen in Serie A. We have to always step onto the pitch with the attitude we showed today, we almost always do and that’s what has led us to win titles, to stay up and to earn 12 points so far this season.”
“Every coach tries to make the most of the players they have, I’m focused on building a solid group and the boys have played as a team since the very first game. I went for Gagliolo and not Pezzella because they normally play with two attacking midfielders and so the full-backs were going to be busy, due to that Riccardo as a centre-back was better suited to this type of game. I then thought that Dermaku, who made his debut today, would bring more balance. But the main decision was down to the fact that when we have Dejan Kulusevski in full flow the full-backs have to stay tight.”
