Also on Boxing Day, the Rossoneri were at Milanello to gear up for the derby against Inter in the TIM Cup quarterfinals. Before the training session started, Rino Gattuso was interviewed by Milan TV to present the match against the Nerazzurri on Wednesday 27th December at 20.45. The boss urged everyone to give more to win the derby, a match which "could change our season".
"It's going to be a very difficult match. Perisic and Candreva can be very dangerous. Inter come off two defeats but we are too going through a difficult period. We need to win this game.
"Physically this team can still improve a lot. I want the team to be more clinical. 53 shots and no goals in the past two games. We have to improve under this aspect. The team played well in the first 20-25 minutes of the games against Atalanta and Verona. But then as soon as we concede we fail to react and bounce back, we lose all our self-confidence. I want to see my team improve on this aspect.
"It's the first time that a team I coach man-marks. I spoke with the boys and they felt more confident in man-marking. We are all aware it's the psychological aspect that's dragging us down.
THE DIFFICULT PERIOD
"No one was expecting such a difficult period. Tomorrow's game can change our season both from a psychological aspect and in terms of results.
"Tomorrow the stadium will be full. The fans are doing a lot for us and we are not paying them back. Our duty is to play a game that can bring back that enthusiasm there was three months ago in the fans.
