A day ahead of Inter vs. Roma, Luciano Spalletti met the press at the Suning Training Centre to discuss the match tomorrow against Roma at 20:30 CEST at the Stadio Meazza. "To find yourselves six matches from the end up against a side like Roma means that the gap has been closed with the sides who had been the examples to follow (Napoli and Roma). They previously held a secure place at the top of our league. It’s a really important moment for us, we’re playing the right chords and getting the right sounds out of them. Because of this, we’re happy to go and play in such an important game."
Two straight wins and no goals against show that Roma are coming to San Siro in good form. "For me, Roma are coming into the game in the right way after their most recent games. They’ve played well and got important results such as the one in Genoa. Dzeko is an opponent to be feared, but we have Lautaro and Icardi in that role who are doing well and Keita has always done his job well when called upon."
The focus in midfield was on the fitness of Borja Valero and Marcelo Brozovic: "Borja Valero will be in the squad, we’ll evaluate Brozovic today. It’ll be tough for him but he’s taken part in the last training sessions, I also have to discuss it with my staff. We’ve played without both in games and done well with Gaglardini and Vecino who split the workload between them in making runs and building from deep while Joao Mario is also doing well."
Attention then turned to the attacking options and the importance of the game coming up: "It’s difficult to say today who will play, evaluations have to be made. Both Icardi and Lautaro are doing well, a decision will have to be reached in a coherent fashion but it’s a tough decision because both would deserve to play. I expect a lot from many of my players because as time goes on, the results become more important so being focused, mature and proactive can make the difference and help us to bring home a win. I expect the right consideration to be applied to these matches. As an experienced player, Perisic will know how to get the energy in his muscles and how to get his head into this kind of game".
