Here are the thoughts of Parma Coach Roberto D’Aversa ahead of the game against Inter at 20:45 CET at the Tardini:
“In our last two games, the positive thing has been that we’re gaining fitness and playing a bit better. Our regret is that if we’d taken four more points, we’d be higher in the table. It would’ve been good for the lads’ morale as well. We need to look ahead and believe in our own potential and quality. At the same time, we can’t allow these errors to happen. Against Spezia, we had chances to go 3-1 up but didn’t take them. We need to kill games off, but we let teams back into it; we cannot allow that to happen.
“On paper, tomorrow’s game is a difficult one. The beauty of football, however, is that, at times, what happens out on the pitch can be totally different. We’ll put in 120% and need to cut out these errors because Inter are top. We caused Inter a lot of problems last season, so we can focus on that positive. Confidence can bring you unexpected results, nothing is impossible in football.
“It’s inexplicable how we conceded from a rebound of a cross against Spezia. Your defenders need to anticipate the danger from a ball into the middle like that. When you have something in your hands, the fear of losing it can maybe get in your head: we had the victory in our hands. We had chances to win the game at 2-2. We need to play the same way for the whole game. We need a win and give our all because we’re coming up against a strong team. We need a result.
“I don’t want to talk about circumstances elsewhere. Parma, and other teams, have played with a lot of positive covid cases. Parma went to Udine and played with a number of players out with coronavirus. I think all teams need to behave in the same way in these circumstances and this isn’t happening; I’m not talking specifically about Torino but in general.
“We can’t let other teams’ results influence us. We need to react only to what we need to do on the pitch. We can only hope that teams around us go through a bad pitch like we’re going through now. We’re playing against the league leaders tomorrow. Inter are a strong team, but I don’t think we’ll be weighed down by that mentally. We have some issues – the table shows as much – but we have been better in our last two games: we’ve been scoring. We need to improve in some aspects that have stopped us from winning games.
“Inglese and Pellè have returned partially, we need to monitor their progress. Graziano joined us after going a while without playing and then got injured. Roberto has been out for a while. We also need to keep an eye on Karamoh and Mihaila, both of whom picked up knocks against La Spezia. I don’t want to use injuries as an excuse; we’ve picked up results in the past with a lot of absences, like Inter earlier in the season."
