Riccardo Bigon, the new sporting director of Bologna, presented himself to the press like so:

“To improve is what Joey Saputo asked of me. I had the pleasure of meeting him in Canada and I recognised that he is an excellent person and business manager of unquestionable ability. I think that Bologna would do well to keep him. On our part, there will be a lot of attention on world football in the search for talent. We want to identify players who work for this squad, who fit in well with the coach and the internal aspects of the club. As in previous season, the squad will be made up of experienced players and good young players. We know that we have to build on the investments that the club has already made while improving in areas where we feel there is a need. All the regulations and the characteristics of the players who might be available will be considered which means that around four or five new signings is a realistic figure. I would like to give the coach something new to work with before the training camp".

"Bologna are a club who everyone likes. We are evaluating closely the situation with Giaccherini, we have met Sunderland and the costs involved are significant. Diawara interests a lot of teams but there are no advanced talks at the moment. Donadoni’s career speaks for itself and so did his last season here, I’ve tried to take him to clubs where I was working in the past. He and his staff are a top class group, they bring value to Bologna.”
