UEFA Europa League

Luciano Spalletti was delighted with his side's all-round display in Thursday's 3-0 Europa League win over Legia Varsavia.

The Azzurri had to bide their time before Lorenzo Insigne eventually opened the scoring with 15 minutes left on the clock, followed by further strikes from Victor Osihmen and Matteo Politano.

"We weren't able to break the deadlock early on but we didn't let it affect us,” the boss offered after the match. “We made sure we didn't get caught out on the counter and kept our shape well.

"We couldn't have done much better than we did tonight: my players played with purpose and showed how keen they are to do well in this competition.

"We have some talented attacking players and we know we're capable of producing a goal at any time. The main thing is you hold your shape during the game so that you can be in with a chance of winning it until the end

“Footballing intelligence is key. When a player plays for the others he knows he'll benefit from it himself. These players really wanted to prove themselves after last season and they're showing what they can do.

"We're all pulling in the same direction because we're determined to progress in Europe. We must win our next few games if we're to top this group.”
