Very important victory at home against Napoli that gives the Eagles 3 precious points in view of salvation; these are the words of coach Thiago Motta in the post-match:
"I think Napoli played a great game, they have great players who are fighting to reach the top of the table. The credit for the victory goes to my boys who showed they are a very good team with great sacrifice and quality of play, managing to stay focused and compact for all 90 minutes.
Napoli is a dangerous team, especially if the opponent defends too low because they always find the one-on-one and are able to get the ball into the box easily, but we managed to stay high and managed the game well despite the difficulties; we remained united and also mentally the team did a great job.
The final embrace with the staff was spontaneous because we are working at our best and we do it with great professionalism and commitment.
I'm happy with the path we've taken so far: we've worked hard since the beginning and at the moment we're in line with the values of the club and the team. We've certainly been through some difficult times in the first half of the season, but we know that we're fighting for salvation and I'm convinced and confident that in the second half we'll be able to do even better.
Today I stayed focused on the game and so did my players, and right away we'll start thinking about the next game against Hellas Verona, which will be a difficult one. It's normal that in our job there are pressures and being questioned, it's part of the game and it's stimulating, we just have to do our part with commitment and professionalism, remembering that we are here for the players who today deserved the victory and the three points.
I think the boys gave everyone a Christmas present, they played a great game against a great team that is fighting to win the league; it's all thanks to them, they did a great job showing their worth and I'm very happy to coach them.
A win is always good, especially on a pitch like this, we have to enjoy it and take advantage of the joy of this evening."
