&lt;p&gt;Douglas Luiz is the first summer signing for &lt;strong&gt;Juventus&lt;/strong&gt;. Sporting Director Giuntioli has picked out the Aston Villa midfielder as an ideal addition for new Bianconeri coach Thiago Motta to build a competitive side ahead of the coming season.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Born in Rio de Janeiro on 9 May 1998, &lt;strong&gt;Douglas Luiz Soares de Paulo&lt;/strong&gt; came up through the Vasco de Gama youth sector, making his debut in the Brazilian second division at just 16 and scoring 2 goals for the side in their campaign for promotion to the Brasileiro Série A. In his second year with the Rio di Janeiro side, he picked up 24 appearances and 3 goals between the Brazilian top division, the Campeonato Carioca and Copa do Brazil.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In the summer of 2017, he moved to Manchester City where he was then sent out on loan to Girona as a way to adapt to European football. In his first year in Catalonia, a young Douglas Luiz didn’t get much space, starting only one game in La Liga and making sporadic appearances off the bench. Things improved the following season with the arrival of new Head Coach, Eusebio, when he secured a spot in the starting XI of a two-man midfield, showing his skills as a &lt;strong&gt;central midfielder&lt;/strong&gt; geared towards defending.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;With a move to &lt;strong&gt;Aston Villa&lt;/strong&gt; in 2019, Douglas Luiz’s career took off. In his first year in the Premier League, he played 36 games, scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists. His work for Villa continued over the next two years, making him a cornerstone of the Birmingham club where Steven Gerrard also coached him. The turning point for Luiz and Aston Villa, who had been hanging around the middle to bottom of the table for several years, was the arrival of &lt;strong&gt;Unai Emery&lt;/strong&gt; in the dugout in the 2022/23 season. The Brazilian player’s growing number of goals is also thanks to his skill from the spot: 5 penalties converted out of the 6 taken in 2023/24. His exponential growth in recent seasons, as well as securing him a move to Juventus, has seen him receive an international call-up to Dorvial Junior’s side as they take on the Copa America 2024 in the USA. The new Bianconeri midfielder had already made his international debut for Brazil during the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, as well as picking up two appearances at the Copa America 2021, though not making the final squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
