I achieved an important and difficult escape from relegation with Spezia, which will always be a beautiful memory for me, and then I came to Lazio. I was catapulted into a completely different environment and I`m very happy to be here. The results have been quite good, we can do better, but I`m satisfied!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Did you follow the World Cup? Who were you cheering for and why?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Yes, even though I tried to take a bit of a break from football to enjoy time with my son. I was mainly cheering for my teammates and then I got attached to the Morocco fairytale. In the end, however, I supported my friend Erlic who came third and I was very happy for him.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Among the many good things this year was the call-up to the national team... Can you tell us about it?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Yes it was a very strange moment because when they called me up we had just lost 5-1 to Midtjylland, it was difficult to celebrate because we were in a special situation. First we have to qualify for the European Championship and defend the title, then we will think about the World Cup. Mancini`s call up has given me a further boost and I hope I can do better and better to stay in the Azzurri squad.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;You have to get there by doing well at Lazio, what kind of team are you?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We`re a team that works hard, has a lot to give, has performed well so far but can do better. We are very well led but I`m sure we have something inside us to be able to do something special!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;How did you find the break between holidays and training?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Everyone does it in their own way, some went on holiday and some stayed with the family like I did, I have a small child and I tried to be with him as much as possible. It helped us to recharge our batteries and then when we came back we were also able to work on a daily basis, something that was never possible in the first part of the season, playing practically every three days.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;p class=&#34;hm-image-wys&#34;&gt;&lt;img src=&#34;https://img.legaseriea.it/vimages/63a5dd24/20232049_large.jpg&#34; alt=&#34;20232049_large.jpg&#34; style=&#34;display: block; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; margin-bottom: 16px; max-width: 100%; width: auto; pointer-events: none;&#34;&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;There have been so many surprises in the first part of the season and no one really knows what the consequences of this long, unprecedented break for the World Cup in Qatar will be. What spirit are you restarting with? Lecce are up next...&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We are full because these weeks of work have served us well from the point of view of organisation and the collective team. We arrive ready and prepared for the first match with Lecce. We`ll try to do even better in order to stay in the top half of the table.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;When you arrived at Lazio in the summer, you started as Maximiano`s back-up. Then in the first league game his sending off after a few minutes catapulted you onto the pitch and you never left. In these cases they use the phrase `sliding doors`, referring to the revolving doors that change the destiny of a season, and for a goalkeeper they seem most appropriate. Is that the case?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I arrived here four days before the first match, I never expected to play right away and it wouldn`t have been fair either, then what happened happened. I`m here to do my best and that`s what I`m trying to do, and then the coach decides. But you, on the other hand, were thinking of becoming the best goalkeeper in the world. Tell us how those beginnings forged your character and your story as a footballer.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I`ll tell you the truth, I always wanted to be a goalkeeper. I fell in love with this role when I saw Toldo at the European Championship against Holland: that moment set off the spark for me. As a child, however, I always played as a striker and I got to a point where I said: `either I play in goal or I stop`. A small club close to home gave me the chance to change roles and I was lucky enough to start again. There were people who told me it was late and that I wouldn`t be able to do it, I won`t name names, they know that, but it`s always like that: there are those who encourage you and those who don`t...&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;So it is more rewarding to save a goal than to score one?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;For me personally yes, I enjoy saving more, it is also nice to score goals but I feel more fulfilled if I make a good save.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;You did score one though, at Ascoli, against Juve Stabia!&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The game was over, we were losing 2-1 and so I went to jump. And we do the one thing the others can`t do, catch the ball with our hands. It`s a unique role!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;So what did they feed you at Friuli? Zoff, Meret, Scuffet, Vicar, and I`m sure I`m forgetting someone...?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I`ll have to ask the kitchen (laughs)! I wasn`t lucky enough to know Zoff, but he`s one of the best ever. I have played with the others and they all have great seriousness, passion and dedication to their work. Without these characteristics it`s difficult to reach certain levels, then there`s mother nature and there`s the famous soup (laughs). In Udine the coaches are very good, if we add all these things up, that`s the reason.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The leap from Spezia to Lazio could have made you shake in your boots, but instead you did it with great ease, earning your place as a starter with courage, great saves and the ability to give your teammates confidence. What was the key to managing expectations so quickly?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I tried not to think about expectations and responsibilities. I am only interested in the pitch because if you think about anything else you risk being crushed. I only think about my path and doing well every day. I have to be ready when I am called upon. That`s what I did at La Spezia and that`s what opened the door for me for this great opportunity that is Lazio. And that`s what I`m doing here too: doing my best. It`s clear that I`m aware of what it means to wear this shirt, we have so many fans who follow us with great affection and expect a lot from us, but I remain focused on what I have to do on the pitch.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;You were strongly supported by Coach Sarri, who has always asked his goalkeepers for leadership and the ability to actively participate in the team`s game. Tell us about your relationship with him and whether anything has changed in your playing style with the Tuscan coach.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I was already flattered just to have been approached by his name. The coach is very demanding, as he should be, and I try to do the best I can with everything he asks of me: I have to be there, help the team and transmit calmness. Football changes in terms of pace, play and demands. You have to be present both in and out of possession. I like this, because then you are even more involved in the game.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Until the break Lazio had the second best defence in the league and you are the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets, 9 in 15 games. What is your defensive solidity based on?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;On work! We try to work as best we can and, following the coach`s directives as much as possible, we managed to do what was asked of us very well in some games, less so in others, like against Juve. We could have conceded a few goals less but I hope we`ll be able to do better from January.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;You are fourth in the table, 10 points behind Napoli and just below AC Milan and Juve. What is the goal?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We want to finish as high as possible, we don`t set ourselves any limits. I wasn`t there last year, and my teammates finished fifth, so I`d say a Champions League finish.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;It`s almost Christmas, how will you spend the holidays? What would you like to find under the tree?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I`d like to be healthy and see the people I rarely get to meet up with during the year. And then to be with my son, it`s the first Christmas for him and he`s&amp;nbsp; starting to feel the magic of the holidays.
